This past week/weekend we along with many friends and family (I will get to them later) have been building a deck! The week was filled with many different activities and here is the run down.
Monday: Dirty Work
The week started off with tilling and moving dirt. The Crandall Clan came over to help with the dirty work. We managed to fill the truck. Did I mention the truck? We borrowed the Davis Ford ’64, 3 on a tree green, manual everything truck to haul dirt. Needless to say we were riding in style. Like I said we filled the truck, and then took it out to Charles to dump. He was quite the lifesaver. Instead of having to shovel the dirt off of the truck he used the tractor. This saved so much time! The day ended with the truck back at our house for another fun filled day of Dirt.
Tuesday: Mud Bowl 2008
Did I say a day of dirt? I should have said MUD. Overnight we received 2 inches of rain. So, all of the nice dry dirt was now Mud Bowl 2008. Korey and I were on our own for this day. We did the best we could, but spent most of the day waiting for the dirt to dry. Finally at 6:00pm we had the truck loaded again to take back to Charles. I think Korey and I never want to see any mud again.
Wednesday: The Green Machine and Rocky Mountains
This morning we headed back out to return the truck to Charles. This time it was a little scarier. We had the truck so full that the tires were “squatting”. Korey drove the green truck and I followed him in my car. We tried to stay on back roads because our top speed was only 30, and as you know in the city that is snail speed. After saying good bye and shedding a tear as we left all of our dirt (NOT) we headed back home to sleep. Later in the afternoon Charles deliver our massive Rocky Mountain of rocks. Well, not really the pile was awful small, but enough.
Thursday: More Rocky Mountains and the EARTHQUAKE…or not
This morning we spread the rock to put under the deck which took no time at all. I think it was due to the fact that Korey had some better help than just me (Dad C, and Mike). Later in the evening (9pm) Ben and Keith arrived to begin the deck madness. Everything seemed to have a snag in it as we (shall I say they) work till 2 am. At that point all of the posts were set and the deck was squared and ready to go.
Friday: Busy Bees
6:00 are the busy bees got started. The entire day was spent working, working, working. It was amazing to see how quickly Korey, Ben, and Keith got things done. Later in the evening Whitney, Randi, Doug, Kathy, and Kristen joined us.
Saturday: The finish line
Today was the finish line. Work started at 7:00am and the deck was done at noon. We calculated that the total “deck time” (not prep) was 26 hours. Pretty impressive! That evening we had a celebration complete with yummy food, fun, fireworks, laughter, and of course the new deck!! We absolutely love our new deck and cannot wait to use in many many more times!
We are so thankful for everyone that came to help....Mom and Dad C (We would still be in Mud Bowl 2008 with out you! Thank you for giving up so much of your time to help), Mike (Many thanks for all of your hard work and entertaining Killian!), Charles (You made our life so much easier, thank you for the use of your "toys", and all of the delivers), Ben (Thank you times 1,000 with out you we would have had no deck), Rachel (thank you for loaning your hubby to us for a few days), Keith (you helped more than you can believe), Whitney (thank you for helping and screwing so well), Randi (also thank you for letting us borrow Whit for a few days), Mom and Dad P. (Once you were here is seemed like everyone was working 10 times faster, Doug you are a cutting machine, and thank you for keeping those boys in line), and Kristen (I am so glad you can even though we had way more fun Saturday than the boys). As you can tell words are just not enough to thank everyone, but here is it is one more time......
I am working on posting all of the pictures, but here is a sneak peek!
